La Nguérinière is a family home designed for a family of four. Inspired by Senegalese vernacular architecture, the project is organised around a central patio that brings light, air and nature into the heart of the house.
THE VISION
The house is built using compressed earth bricks. The concrete structure is hidden between two layers of bricks, creating a ventilated air cavity that acts as the building's main insulation. This system provides excellent thermal comfort while celebrating the beauty of natural materials.
BUILDING WITH EARTH
ARCHITECTURAL APPROACH
Inspired by the traditional Senegalese impluvium house, the patio becomes the heart of daily life. Rainwater collected from the roof is redirected to irrigate the surrounding garden. An outdoor living space allows the family to enjoy natural ventilation while maintaining a constant connection with the landscape. Every ventilation grille was custom designed using sacred geometry, combining craftsmanship, symbolism and architectural detail.
